The Legend of DJ lrod
The King of Stems
Rodney Dickens has been moving crowds since the mid-1980s — long before digital decks, streaming platforms, or Wi-Fi ever existed.
Starting on vinyl, he developed his ear during an era when DJs had to feel the music, not just play it. As technology evolved, Rodney evolved with it — transitioning into the digital world in the early 2000s without ever losing the soul of his sound.
During the COVID era, a single moment changed everything. While listening to a conversation between D-Nice and an up-and-coming artist, Rodney heard something that stuck:
“I don’t want the track… I want the stems.”
That moment sparked a new creative path.
What started as curiosity turned into mastery.
By breaking music down into its core elements — vocals, drums, bass, and melody — Rodney discovered a new way to perform. Not just mixing songs, but rebuilding them live.
Inspired by legends like George Clinton, Prince, Chaka Khan, Sade and James Brown, his sound blends classic musicality with modern house energy.
The result is something different.
A style where audiences don’t just listen — they recognize, react, and sing along.
A style rooted in what he calls:
“Real music.”
Today, as The King of Stems, Rodney brings a new dimension to Jersey soulful house — layering the past and present into one continuous experience.
Because for him…
House music isn’t just sound.
It’s a feeling that never stops.
